Chapter Eleven
Monday in English, Donghae resisted the urge to go to sleep with great effort. They were taking a benchmark test soon and he definitely couldn’t pass if he slept through classes until then. Not to mention he hadn’t had a proper study session with Kyuhyun in a while.
He was really beginning to think he was ADD. Every time he’d think he was paying attention, he’d find something else to stare at. When he had to read for tests, he usually couldn’t keep his focus long enough to finish the whole story without going to the bathroom or sharpening his pencil. If he used a pen, then he’d sit there and chew on it while he re-read the same sentence ten times.
This time it was Kyuhyun walking by the door down the hall towards the library that caught his eye.
He looked at the teacher and highly doubted she’d let him go in the middle of her lecture. But now that he knew Kyuhyun was there, it made it all the more difficult to pay attention.
What if Kyuhyun wanted him to go? It would explain why he’d taken the long away around to the library instead of the usual route he took. What if he got mad if Donghae didn’t show?
“Um, can I go to the bathroom?”
She glanced at him with a look of obvious irritation and sighed. “Hurry up. Take the hall pass.”
He shuffled out the door and briskly walked down the hall, turned left and went into the library. He looked around and saw Kyuhyun at a back computer, clicking around on a website. He noticed the librarian had taken her cart and wasn’t in the room at the moment, and there was no one else there. Not that there ever was – everyone hated the library.
Donghae walked up to the row of computers and took a seat next to Kyuhyun, setting his hall pass on the table. “Hey,” he said quietly.
Kyuhyun clicked on the screen one last time and then turned to Donghae with a smirk. He leaned in and before Donghae knew it, he was kissing him right in the middle of the school library. It wasn’t just a peck on the lips, either. They may as well have been tonguing and all.
“Miss me?” Kyuhyun asked as he pulled away.
“Not really.” Donghae wiped his mouth with the back of his hand.
Kyuhyun’s eyes narrowed as he watched Donghae’s hand fall to his lap. “Trying to piss me off already, I see.”
“I’m so good at it, I don’t even know when I’m doing it,” Donghae mumbled.
Huffing slightly, Kyuhyun stood up and stretched right in front of Donghae. His shirt lifted slightly and he could see part of Kyuhyun’s stomach. He bent over and put a hand behind Donghae’s head, clutching his hair to tilt his face backwards to look up.
“Ow.” Donghae closed his eyes as Kyuhyun leaned downwards to kiss him again, exhaling and parting his lips slightly.
Only Kyuhyun never kissed him, simply chuckled and then let go of his hair before he walked away. “See you later, Donghae.”
Donghae may or may not have turned red as he power-walked through the other library door and went back to class. He spent the rest of the day still slightly embarrassed by the incident, even considered not going to Kyuhyun’s after school. But that seemed highly unlikely as he drove down the road and pulled into Kyuhyun’s driveway. As he went into Kyuhyun’s house, so accustomed to not knocking, he looked around and spotted Mitzy on the arm of the couch, her tail flicking about.
“Hi Mitzy,” he cooed, lifting her chubby, fluffy cat self off of the couch and flopping her over his shoulder as he stroked her soft fur. “You’ve gained weight, I see.”
She meowed contentedly, and Donghae smiled and was glad that cats didn’t understand what he said. He toted her to Kyuhyun’s room and knocked softly before inviting himself in.
Kyuhyun looked up from his computer and smirked slightly. “What are you doing to the Little Shit?” he asked as he stood up.
“Don’t listen to him,” Donghae said with pursed lips of endearment. “He’s jealous you’re so cute.”
Kyuhyun scratched Mitzy’s back a moment before he turned and picked up his jacket. “We’re not going to study today,” he said.
“But – I have benchmarks coming up.” Donghae set Mitzy on the floor and she walked between his legs a moment before skittering off down the hallway.
“Look,” Kyuhyun said, pausing in front of Donghae as he adjusted the collar of his jacket, “you either know it by now or you don’t. We’ll cram before semester finals, but we can at least take a day off before then.”
Donghae sighed but agreed and followed Kyuhyun down to the living room. “Are we going to the arcade?” he asked as they walked out to Kyuhyun’s car and got in.
“No,” Kyuhyun replied and turned the heater on high as he backed the car out. “I’m hungry.”
Donghae nodded and looked out the window for a moment. “Doing anything for winter break?” he asked. After semester finals, they would release school for winter break for two weeks and not come back until January. He’d heard around school that homecoming was sometime soon after they came back.
“I think I’m going to my grandparents’. I’ll probably be away most of the break,” Kyuhyun stated, though he didn’t sound too happy about it. “Means I have to sleep on the couch and deal with a shit internet connection for two weeks.”
With a bit of thought, Donghae realized he could either be disappointed by the news or happy about it. He would be completely free for two entire weeks, completely without Kyuhyun, and he didn’t known just yet if that was a good or bad thing.
They made it into the city and Kyuhyun exited the highway to pull into the parking lot of a nice restaurant. Donghae had been once or twice with his mom, but normally only when she was in a really good mood.
“Hey, I don’t think I have enough money for this,” Donghae said hesitantly. He’d expected fast food, something cheap. Kyuhyun had a habit of pushing the tab to Donghae.
“Maybe they’ll make us wash dishes until we pay off our debt,” Kyuhyun said dryly as they headed for the entrance.
Inside the air was warm and the lighting was dim, the colors in deep shades. The hostess seated them in the back behind a couple and their child. As she placed menus in front of them and took their drink orders, Donghae realized he definitely didn’t have enough money to pay for this.
“Kyuhyun, I have less than twenty bucks on me!” he hissed, glancing around in case the waitress heard and decided to kick them out.
Kyuhyun picked up a complimentary breadstick and tore it in half to eat it. “Know what you want to eat?” he asked, completely dodging Donghae’s statement.
“What the hell, Kyuhyun? Is this your idea of some sort of shit date?” Donghae asked, staring at Kyuhyun incredulously.
“What – you don’t like Italian?” Kyuhyun asked, smirking. He nudged Donghae’s foot with his own under the table. “And after this we can go for a walk around the square in the starlight.”
Donghae laughed, really laughed and shook his head as he tried to read the menu.
“Actually,” Kyuhyun continued, “I was planning on renting a movie and watching it at my house. Since you’re staying the night and all.”
This brought Donghae’s attention from the menu. “I don’t have any clothes or anything.”
“We can fix that,” Kyuhyun stated. “Ten bucks says I can get our waitress’s number,” he said hurriedly just as she came around the corner and headed for their table.
“Are you gentlemen ready to order?” she asked with a smile.
Kyuhyun’s eyes held mischief as he pried them from Donghae’s face and stared heavily at the waitress to order. “I don’t know about my friend here, but I definitely am.”
Donghae watched with mild amusement as the waitress became a flirtatious, giggling mess while Kyuhyun laid on the charm and sent her that devilish smile and those bedroom eyes. She seemed just as eager to take Donghae’s order as he spoke softly with a small smile.
“I’ll have that right out for you guys,” she said and turned to leave with one last look over her shoulder.
“I give her a six point five,” Kyuhyun stated and picked up his fork to start at his salad.
“Seven,” Donghae said, giving her extra for her soft-looking brown hair and dark brown eyes.
“You’re not allowed to grade,” Kyuhyun stated firmly, crunching away at his lettuce.
Donghae rolled his eyes. “And why is that?” he asked as he leaned on the table and cupped his chin in his hand. He didn’t really have an appetite for salad, though he was anticipating the chicken Alfredo he had ordered.
Kyuhyun swallowed a bite and leaned forward just a bit. “Those being graded can’t participate in the grading,” he stated in a deep, teasing voice.
Snorting with laughter, Donghae wondered if he should take that statement seriously. “Oh? So what am I, then?” he asked.
“Can’t tell you that.”
“Your ego is too big to admit I’m a solid ten.”
“Nope. Your ego would be if I told you that.” Kyuhyun reached across and stabbed into one of Donghae’s cherry tomatoes with his fork. “Not that you are.”
Kyuhyun was a ten.
Donghae felt his face heat up and swallowed hard against his dry throat. He took a drink and shed his jacket, letting it hang over the back of his seat.
“The other day Sungmin asked about you,” Kyuhyun stated, pretty much out of the blue.
He didn’t have any classes with Sungmin, but it was reasonable to assume that Kyuhyun did. “What did he want to know?” Donghae asked.
Chuckling slightly, Kyuhyun set down his fork and wiped his hands on his napkin. “He wanted to ask me, since you and I are such good friends, why you were carrying around a book by Marquis de Sade.”
The name sounded familiar, but Donghae couldn’t quite place it. “What book? I don’t read,” Donghae said.
“The 120 Days of Sodom,” Kyuhyun said with a pleased grin. “The book I gave you that you never read.”
Jaw dropping and his eyes nearly popping out of his head, Donghae sputtered and then let out an embarrassed laugh. “Sungmin thought I was actually reading that? Did you tell him it was your book?”
Before Kyuhyun replied, the waitress returned with a tray and their plates of food. She carefully placed the dishes in front of them and smiled at Kyuhyun a few extra times, batted her lashes a bit more than necessary.
It was irritating.
“Anyways,” Kyuhyun breathed as the waitress left. “I told him I’d never seen you carrying it around.”
“Have you actually read that?” Donghae asked, ignoring that Kyuhyun had lied to Sungmin blatantly. He didn’t particularly care if Sungmin thought he had weird taste in books at all, though.
“Of course I have.” Kyuhyun smiled naughtily and started eating.
They conversed a bit between bites, but for the most part they both stuffed their faces until their hunger had been sated and they couldn’t eat anymore.
When their waitress came to check on them, Kyuhyun motioned for her to lean closer. Donghae’s eyebrow rose curiously as he watched Kyuhyun whisper something into her ear and then she leaned away with a small giggle.
“What was that about?” Donghae asked, trying to sound less interested than he actually was.
“Getting my ten bucks.”
“I never agreed to that bet.”
Kyuhyun seemed utterly pleased when the waitress came back to their table carrying a desert plate with white chocolate cream cake with – oh, Donghae should have guessed – strawberries. She set it in front of Donghae and he could only sigh as he looked at the enormous slice of cake.
“Eat up,” Kyuhyun said with mock cheerfulness. “I’m paying.”
Internally damning Kyuhyun, Donghae picked up the fork and started at the cake. He nearly drowned in strawberry-goodness and white chocolate heaven, making an appreciative sound as he stuffed in another bite.
“You’d think that cake was giving you an orgasm,” Kyuhyun said and snickered a bit because Donghae didn’t even care about the statement.
Donghae ate about half the cake before he thought his stomach might burst and set his fork down with a satisfied sigh. “I can’t eat anymore.”
“That wasn’t cheap. You’re just going to waste it?” Kyuhyun asked even as he reached across the table and picked up the plate to set it in front of himself. He picked up the fork Donghae had used and cut a small portion.
Donghae couldn’t help but watch as Kyuhyun’s lips slid over the prongs of the fork, cleaning off the white icing before he licked his lips and hummed his approval.
The waitress brought their ticket soon and Kyuhyun stood to leave after he paid for the entire meal. Donghae grabbed his jacket and trailed behind Kyuhyun like a little duckling, unsure of how and when exactly Kyuhyun was going to seek compensation for the dinner.
“Are we going home now?” Donghae asked once they were inside the car and back on the road.
“Nah,” Kyuhyun replied. He drove them to a movie rental place and tossed his keys in one hand as they went inside. “Let’s see, let’s see. Horror movie? Or a comedy?” Kyuhyun asked as they started down the nearest aisle. He turned to Donghae and leaned closer, a half-smile on his face. “Romance, maybe?”
“Um… whatever you want to watch is fine. Just nothing scary.” Donghae watched with disbelief as Kyuhyun almost instantaneously started for the horror movie section, and then he realized he had basically set himself up and he was an idiot for it. With a begrudging sigh, he walked over to where Kyuhyun had picked a few movies and was trying to decide between the two.
“Which one?” Kyuhyun asked, as if Donghae might have an actual preference.
Donghae rolled his eyes. “What’s the point of this anyways?” he asked.
Kyuhyun turned his face towards Donghae ever so lightly, his eyes meeting Donghae’s with an unreadable look in them. “Do I need a reason?”
His jaw tightened, almost like an invisible source was willing him not to reply because either answer he could say was wrong. He remained silent and Kyuhyun eventually went back to the movies in his hands, selecting one rather quickly and then heading for the counter.
Back in Kyuhyun’s house after a trip to Donghae’s, Kyuhyun lead the way inside the dark living room a ways before flipping on the light and throwing his jacket onto the back of an armchair. As Kyuhyun opened the movie and got that set up, Donghae settled into the couch and gratefully pulled off his shoes and jacket. He watched as Kyuhyun turned the lights off and then came back to the couch.
“Why did you have to turn out the lights?” Donghae asked, hoping his fear wasn’t that evident in his voice.
Kyuhyun’s reply was a sinister chuckle as the movie began its opening sequence.
Donghae had never been one for scary movies. His dad had never let anyone watch them in their house, and his mom kept it that way presently. Chewing on the inside of his cheek, Donghae tried to watch but at the same time tried not to think too deeply about it. When he realized the movie was about aliens, he swallowed and looked at Kyuhyun suspiciously, as if he might turn into a malevolent alien and try to rip him apart.
The first actual scary scene progressed and Donghae covered his eyes, shaking his head to try to clear the sounds from his ears. “I can’t watch this,” he stated. “I can’t. Kyuhyun, I can’t watch this!”
“Stop being such a pussy,” Kyuhyun grumbled and smacked Donghae on the leg to shut him up.
Donghae peeped through his fingers and watched as an evil alien mutilated a girl on screen, blood and gore spraying everywhere. He felt himself gag slightly and he squeezed his eyes shut. “Let’s watch something else. Cake Boss. That’s on now, isn’t it?”
“Shut up,” Kyuhyun groaned.
“Kyuhyun, please. This is scary,” Donghae begged, turning towards him and trying his best to look irresistible.
Kyuhyun’s eyes darted to Donghae’s face and he threw his arms on the back of the couch. “I paid for dinner, I pick the movie,” he stated.
“I’m not going to be able to sleep.”
“I will.”
“Please.”
“Shh.”
Donghae went quiet and tried to watch the movie calmly. The intense music had stopped, and Donghae immediately suspected something was going to pop out at the screen at any moment. He wiggled closer to Kyuhyun, feeling like maybe, maybe Kyuhyun would somehow make it better. He didn’t see any actual reason in this thinking, but it seemed like his only option at the moment.
And even though he was watching, waiting for it to happen – he nearly leapt out of his skin and screamed bloody murder when the alien screeched and attacked, ripping apart a young man with its silver tentacles and gnashing venomous fangs. It took him a moment to calm himself, to realize Kyuhyun was laughing and had an arm around his shoulders, pulling him in slightly. It took him a moment to realize he’d clamped a hand onto Kyuhyun’s thigh, the other clenched into a tight fist at his other side.
Kyuhyun’s arms slid downwards around his waist as he scooted closer, leaning into Donghae slightly.
Donghae didn’t resist, only stared at the screen with horror. The fear almost overcame the sensation of Kyuhyun’s mouth on his ear, trailing down to his neck. But those heated lips against his skin took his entire attention soon, the tongue that brushed against his neck made him forget – movie? What movie?
Turning his face, he met Kyuhyun’s mouth with his own like submerging into water, or covering himself entirely with a blanket. His breathing was labored, his entire being focused only on Kyuhyun, Kyuhyun with his perfect mouth and tongue on his own. He could feel Kyuhyun completely in control, his lips holding more power than Donghae’s. For a moment he didn’t realize Kyuhyun’s hands were on him, one pulling against the back of his neck and the other dangerously high on his leg.
Kyuhyun’s mouth moved down his neck and Donghae opened his eyes for a moment, unseeing as he felt Kyuhyun suck on his skin rather harshly and then teeth grazed him. He tipped his head back a bit and put an arm around Kyuhyun’s neck just as their lips met again and Kyuhyun forced his tongue inside Donghae’s mouth.
Moments later Kyuhyun was subtly leaning forward and Donghae felt himself moving backwards, all the way until he lay flat on the couch with Kyuhyun on top of him. He didn’t really have time to marvel at how Kyuhyun’s body felt flush against his, as he could feel himself growing aroused and that could be a potential problem.
He could feel Kyuhyun’s tongue between his lips, sliding against his own and trailing on the roof of his mouth. One of his arms wrapped around Kyuhyun’s ribcage and slid along his back, all the way to the waist line of his pants. Kyuhyun’s hand grasped his outer knee and pulled it upwards so that he could settle more between his legs.
When Kyuhyun’s hips ground down against his without notice, Donghae let out a small moan and then gasped as he realized that hadn’t just been in his head. He knew it wouldn’t be a good time to become this hard, but the throbbing in his pants was persistent and Kyuhyun’s undulating hips against his didn’t help at all.
“Stop,” he whispered, his voice breaking slightly. Either Kyuhyun didn’t hear or he ignored Donghae. “Stop,” he repeated again and tried to push at Kyuhyun’s shoulder slightly. “We shouldn’t –”
“Hush.” Kyuhyun reattached their mouths and silenced Donghae with an overpowering tongue and consuming lips. He let a faint, deep noise from his throat as he rubbed their crotches together and Donghae relished the sound and the friction.
And then there was a distant sound, almost too vague for him to interpret. He didn’t realize for a moment with Kyuhyun’s unrelenting grinding hips distracting him, but when he heard the car door, he inhaled sharply and shoved Kyuhyun by the shoulders.
“Your parents!” he hissed, and Kyuhyun took the hint immediately and launched himself from on top of Donghae towards the doorway to the hall. Donghae didn’t quite know whether to follow or not, but he glanced at the front door knowing either Mr. or Mrs. Cho would walk in at any moment and bolted from the couch to follow Kyuhyun.
Inside the closed door of Kyuhyun’s room, Donghae watched as Kyuhyun walked across his room and ran a frustrated hand through his hair.
“We left the movie on.”
Kyuhyun ignored his statement, only leaned towards the window and pushed the blinds down with a finger to look outside. “It’s my mom,” was all he said.
“Should I… go home?” Donghae asked quietly.
“No,” Kyuhyun replied curtly. “Stay the night. Our parents would think something is up and then we’d have to lie our way through this and heaven knows you’re shit at that.”
Donghae sank down on the edge of Kyuhyun’s bed and watched him check himself in the mirror. He looked away, not sure if he wanted to see the mussed hair and flushed cheeks when he was this present within his own mind. They were a mark of what they’d done, a reminder that Donghae was in deep already.
Wordlessly, Kyuhyun left Donghae alone in his room and closed the door behind himself.
In Kyuhyun’s absence, Donghae pressed a hand over his eyes and exhaled slowly. This was insane. Kyuhyun was insane. He was insane. This was all happening too quickly, and he was too stupid to do anything about it. He had initiated it, even.
A few minutes later, Kyuhyun entered the room again looking a bit less uneasy.
It wasn’t like Donghae had thought for a moment he could actually end it.
